  • George Steinbrenner, great humanitarian, philanthropist , owner, citizen and last but not least .... great AMERICAN !!!

  • He was once criticized for thinking and even believing that the Yankees should win every ballgame they played in a season...That's why they have 27.

  • @Ruman17 My grandfather (dad's side) was George's cousin.

We are distant relatives.... I think..

RIP George. You are well missed.

  • My grandfather (mom's side) was a 2nd cousin to George

My family (dad's side) has been Yankee fans since the 20's going wayyyyyy back

It was just coincidence that my dad happened to marry into George's family lol

    Strange how life works...RIP

  • @Buc1G59 Things the geniuses of ESPN hardly ever brought up.

  • I hate the Yankees, but RIP, George

  • He was the greatest sports owner of all time.

  • @Buc1G59

George Steinbrenner, the man who was banned from baseball for slander on one of the games greatest class acts (Dave Winfield)

George Steinbrenner, the man who knocked down the greatest ballpark ever for.....$2500 field level seats, luxury boxes, and a Hard Rock Cafe.

George Steinbrenner, the man who made it immpossible for the average fan to have a decent seat to a game.

    etc., etc.,etc.

George Steinbrenner.....I'm glad he is dead.

  • @ricsanta1 And also don't forget the 3 Home Runs he did hit in the 6th Game of the 1977 World Series. ALL OF THEM ON THE FIRST PITCH. The main reason why George Steinbrenner got Reggie was because George took the Reds Sweep like a slap in the Face and he wanted to win, AND NOW! And he knew that Reggie was "The Man" for George if he wanted the Yankees to win back in 1977 and 1978. Only George could have seen why Reggie Jackson will forever be known as "Mr. October", and "A Child of Autumn".

  • @Jiltedin2007 Yes, it's funny how things worked out after Steinbrenner signed Reggie Jackson. Remember the October 2, 1978 tiebreaker game for the AL East pennant vs. Boston up at Fenway Park? That game is, of course, best known for the birth of, in Red Sox Nation language, Bucky (F***ing) Dent :-). It's amazing how lots of Yankee fans tend to forget that it was Reggie Jackson's monster HR off Bob Stanley in the top of the 8th inning that turned out to be the winning run.

  • Without George Steinbrenner, how much longer do you think the Yankees would have been in the same toilet that George pulled them out of in 1973?

  • @AaronTG1990 Dummy! If it wasn't for "The Boss", how much longer do you think the Yankees would've remained in the toilet as far as contending? From 1966 to 1973, CBS Sports did nothing to make the Yankees contenders for anything! After George Steinbrenner bought the Yankees in 1973, they won their first Pennant in 12 years only in George's 3rd year as Owner. The Following year, they won their first World Series in 15 years. Do you still want to question what George brought to the table?
