@publisher73 I happen to own several WeatherSTAR IIIs, and one of them displays a bluish background while the other two display a purplish one. Perhaps the color changed with the hardware revisions?

@GayTexasBoy Yeah, it wasn't quite as cold in January and February of 1990.

@sportfan28 Winter of 89-90 became very mild after the month of December

@HIPPABELLE Birmingham hit -6 in 1985

In my opinion, the weather channel was at its best from the time I started watching it in June of 1992 until sometime in 1996. I know it sucks now, everyone agrees with that, but I am sure we all disagree when it started to go downhill.

Man, that was 20 years ago today. Technology has gone from a text-only local forecast to hirad, digital and enhaced doppler radar.

In those kind of temperatures, you better have your water faucets dripping, otherwise the pipes will burst.

I remember this....It was when I was a kid and it snowed like a foot in Metairie....wow

There's no audio. Is that b/c of copyrights?

Wow, I can't believe how COLD it was that far south on Dec. 24, 1989. ZERO degrees in Birmingham, AL ?!?!? That's unheard of!
The footage was recorded in SP mode, which always was best for preserving sound and picture on VHS. And I've always wondered if there were two different "colors" for backgrounds, or if the tint control on our TV sets wasn't just fooling us.
