This is a film produced in 1964 that discusses the navigation benefits of the 9 foot channel for the Missouri River Bank Stabilization and Navigation Project, Sioux City, Iowa to the Mouth. This project was authorized by the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1945. The Mississippi Valley Association through its Missouri River Shippers Committee presented this movie. This first of three parts is 9:29 minutes. The film begins with a basin history by the Corps Director of Civil Works Brigadier General Harry G. Woodbury. The film then continues with President Harry S. Truman with the Corps Missouri River Division Commander, Major General George Walker and the Corps Kansas City District Commander, Colonel Miles Wachendorff, standing along the Corps buoy vessel the MV Sergeant Floyd. Next to the General and Colonel are Lew Paramore, Mississippi Valley Association and John T. Massman of John Massman Contracting Co., LLC. The segment ends with a statement by Mr. Fred Seaton, newspaper publisher, Hastings, NE. Mr. Seaton also served eight years as Secretary of the Interior under Dwight D. Eisenhower.
