The small village of Sarchievo, on 8th of August 2010 was the most mentioned place on the news everywhere on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia. The reason for that was an event of great importance. With over 10 000 visitors this might be said to be a event of the year. The reason of gathering of such a great number of people was the attempt to brake the World Guinness Record in cooked beans in a single pot. However this wasn't the only reason for the gathering. In the same time, while the beans was cooking, the Beatitude Stefan of Ohrid and Macedonia Orthodox Church together with many other priests consecrated the first summer church in Macedonia, the church of St. Petka. The building of the church begun in April this year, and only after three months the building of the church is finished. The main sponsor in building the church was Mr. Stojan Davchev. Many years ago, there was a small church on this same place. Later, it was rebuilt as a bigger one. However as the time was passing, the number of the orthodox Christians who visited the church was increasing, so there was a need for even more bigger church. Mr. Stojan Davchev, whose origins are form this place, actually, he, himself was born in Sarchievo, was the only one who wanted to build a house of God, in accordance with the people's needs.
After the act of Consecration was finished, the sponsor, of this event, Mr. Davchev gave presents to the priests who participated in the holy liturgy. Giving presents to the priests after consecration of a church is an Orthodox costume .
The beans which was expected to brake the record begun to cook in 07:00 in the morning, the ingredients were put in the kettle half an hour earlier, in 06:30. The chef Ljupco Gievski was taking care everything to be in accordance with the rules required by the international organization of Guinness World Records. However he wasn't cooking alone, but there was a team of cooks who worked very patiently. The beans was cooked according to Macedonian old traditional recipe. Speaking of cooking beans, I must mention that Macedonian people usually cook beans in Friday.

Preparation of this Guinness beans included:
400 - (four hundred kilos of beans)
2. 600 - (2 thousand and six hundred kilos of water)
200 - (two hundred kilos of beacon)
50 - (fifty kilos of onion)
70 - (seventy kilos of oil)
9 - (nine kilos of salt)
7 - (seven kilos mix of spaces)
1- (one kilo black pepper in grain)
3 - (three kilos grinded black pepper)
50 - bunchs of parsley
32,6 kg of flour
3,26 grinded red pepper The kettle was high 1,5 metars and was made especially for this occasion. Cooking of the beans took 6 hours.
Taking into consideration the time needed for preparing the beans, the organizers thought that their gusts musn't be bored, so they invited two Folklore Dance Ensembles, whose aim was to entertain the audience. First on the stage guests had the opportunity to enjoy in the performance of the Academic cultural folk ensemble Mirche Acev.
After that the children of the folk dance ensemble Risto Donev-the teacher had their opportunity to entertain the audience.
Obviously both dance ensembles did a great job, because the guests were enjoying for whole 2 hours.
As the time was passing the guests, who came from different areas of Macedonia because they wanted to be part of this manifestation became really inpatient to hear whether Macedonia is going to be noted in the book of Guinness World Records.
Around 1 o'clock afternoon the cooking of the beans come to the end. The judge from the international organization of Guinness records, Tarica Vara was near the pot, measuring the ingredients, and the quantity of the pot. After she made sure that everything is in accordance with the rules required by this international organization, Tarica Vara appeared on the stage and announced that the world record is broken and that Sarchievo set new Guinness world record.
The manifestation was broadcasting by several Macedonian as well as some foreign TV stations. The TV live broadcast lasted 9 hours.
At the end the guests were invited to taste the beans which broke the Guinness World Record. Because the beans was prepared by Macedonian traditional recipe, those who wanted to eat the bean in the way their ancestors ate in the past, could buy wooden plates and eat the beans in the same way their grandparents did.
Macedonia sucseded in breaking the World Guinness record in cooked beans, with making the largest quantity of beans, of 3, 150 kilos.
