Something like this HAS happened in real life. According to Christopher Awdry in "Sodor: Reading Between the Lines", this episode is based on something that once happened to one of the Great Eastern Railway's "Jazz" commuter trains, and has probably happened elsewhere, too. Very nice commentaries, sir.
