We take you for a ride on Beijing's much anticipated airport express line which opened last weekend. Its opening coincides with other measures intended to reduce traffic congestion and will cater to thousands of Olympic tourists as the Games edge closer.

  • how did you get in the cockpit?

  • Damn! 25 yuan!

  • express probably means nonstop

  • And how about your vietnam? Cheap also?

  • this is subway ok?

  • The highest speed of TVG is currently 574.8 km/h, and the highest speed of the maglev train in Japan is currently 581km/h, but both of them have not been commercialized yet. Although I hate the Communist Party, but yet they are going to build a train line from Beijing to Shanghai by 2010 (350km/h) and another from Beijing to Guangzhou (perhaps will be extened to Hongkong) by 2012 (highest 350km/h), and perhaps there also will be a line from Beijing to Taipei (also about 350) in the future.

  • I have rode the train from the center of Beijing to the airport. Yes, the train is very slow, but very convenient. You do not need to commute from the city center to the inside of the airport. And if you have the time, you can ride the train from Beijing to Tianjing, the highest speed is 394 km/h currently (it seems that the original technology is from Japan, but it is even faster than the Shinkansen in Japan). Also you can try the Maglev train in Shanghai (highest 431 km/h currently).

  • what kind of express is it if the ride is at 60 km/hr?? slower than grandma on her wheel chair!
