  • regions and cities and towns first need their own commuter trains, rapid transit/metro, and streetcars or light-rail before you can start considering high-speed rail.

Otherwise how do you get to the high-speed rail and what do you do once you arrive at your destination - drive?

  • depends on the region. He's also talked about car sharing and subway systems and all sorts of other alternative transport options.

Also, it's not just transport of people, but goods. Also decreases air travel which is a big polluter as well. There is a number of ways you can look at this.

  • ummm...ummmm...ummmm......:P good interview though

  • She was a bit nervous I think. Don't bash her haha

  • I wished chomsky lived till he was 400 years old. When this guy dies we'll lose one of the greatest thinking and critical minds in the world.

  • I always love these interviews with Chomsky in his office. It allows me to peer at the background so I can see what books he's reading :)

  • @kraeron His linguistic work was brilliant, but his political and economic views border on idiocy. Why do you think he is giving an interview for a paper that has about 25 readers?

  • repent and run for your lifes. run and hide with Jesus christ.

  • ummmmmmm

  • (A)

  • Chomsky is just the most recent example of the distrust America holds for intellectuals. There are a long line of them, and they tend to be socialists as a matter of fact. It's like beating your head against a wall. Capitalism is becoming more and more hilarious in its farcical attempts to preserve itself. Whatever happened to the ideal of holding ideas contrary to ones own? Apparently that's treason these days.

  • Can anyone make out the books behind chomsky apart from 'balibo' and 'stuffed and starved'?

  • for Nixons "Buy America" program, Boeing entered the public transportation market and built an EMU for Chicagos elevated and a lightrail for Boston and San Francisco.

The 2400 series train was fine and still operates although at 34 years of age it is rapidly approaching retirement, however the Standard Light Rail Vehicle was a notorious disaster.

  • I hear that he reads 7 newspapers a day and something like a 100 journals a month.

  • Holy shit. First few seconds of the interview u'll think how neat and organized chomsky is, after that u see the stacked books he obviously read within a day!(exaggerating)
