Brief test of what may be the last sounding of Wilton Manors' Federal Thunderbeam fire siren. From what I was told, it was used for all fire calls until 2000, which was when the city disbanded the VFD and switched to contracting with the city of Ft. Lauderdale FR. The siren is eventually going to go to the Historical Society, but hopefully can see reuse either as a tornado warning signal, or as a daily noon whistle.

My personal vote is for both! But I think that a several second blast at noon everyday would help to keep Wilton Manors the unique city that it is. The city is redeveloping Wilton Drive a lot and has a lot of stores, restaurants, and apartments/condos going in. A noon siren for several seconds would be another element adding character to "The Island City".

  • Nice sounding RSH-10 Adam! Is it painted red?

  • @Siren1000T1

The screen part is more of a tan and the top part might have been red at one time, but it's more pink now.
