WASTED LIVES
Released in 1972

This edition tels the stories of Lucy Baker and Phyllis Wood, who have needlessly spent the majority of their lives in mental hospitals. Also includes an interview with Dr Michael Quinn.

Oral testimony from former residents of St Catherines Mental Hospital, Doncaster. Filmed in the 1970's, we meet various people who quite literally had their lives taken away from them. Their only crime being born into an intolerant society that was quite happy to lock them away for the best years of their lives.

  • @pawsjones The sad part too is realising that these are only the ones we see here and know about.

What about all the rest of the thousands of people who came to such places were abused for most of their lives then died and were never heard about. Much is said about the Nazis and terrible crimes against humanity that they were responsible for...well as far as I'm concerned this is the same kind of barbarism brought to society by the UK government just in a different guise...

  • It's so sad that Alice an all those other poor unfortunate women were made to live in those awful places.....for what ?? Alice was a neglected child who should of been cared for an given love not locked away an forgotten about. I wish I had known her I would of visited her it's such a terriable shame. To think it must of been 1897 when she went in that place an this interview was conducted in 1972 when her life was over at 75 yrs. My heart goes out to her xxx

  • I carn't watch this it is so very very sad god bless them all xxx

  • Unbelievable that our society has allowed this to happen to these poor forgotten women. I found this footage very sad an shocking, However I'm glad that we can see what these poor women suffered at the hands of our society.....I just hope they did eventually get released....Bless

  • so sad bless them all xx
