"Disappeared" Human Rights Lawyer Gao Zhisehng Confirmed Alive!-- but exiled to remote prison in desolate west China

Dear Free-Gao friends,

After nearly two years with no news of the whereabouts or fate of "disappeared" Christian human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng, his family and supporters were relieved to learn on New Year's Day that he was alive, but dismayed that Chinese authorities had put him in a remote prison in a desolate part of far west China to serve out his newly imposed three-year sentence.

The information was conveyed in a notification from the Shaya (Xayar) Prison in Xinjiang, a minority region in far western China, to Gao's older brother, Gao Zhiyi, who immediately contacted ChinaAid with the news. ChinaAid has partnered closely with Gao's family to find him and to raise international awareness of his case. ChinaAid founder and president Bob Fu conveyed the news to Gao's wife and children, who escaped from China and are now living in the United States.

Gao disappeared into police custody in April 2010, the most recent in a series of forced disappearances since his 2006 conviction on a subversion charge. On Dec. 16, just days before his five-year probation period was to have ended, the Chinese government announced that it was sending him to prison for three years for violating his probation. That was the first word that he was still alive, but no information of his whereabouts or condition was released until the notification from the prison, which was dated Dec. 19.

Shaya (Xayar) Prison is located in Aksu Prefecture, about 1,130 kilometers (700 miles) southwest of the Xinjiang capital of Urumqi.

For more details, see Telegraph report at http://www.chinaaid.org/2012/01/missing-china-dissident-gao-zhisheng-in.html and listen to the BBC's interview with Fu here http://www.chinaaid.org/2012/01/bcc-new-report-about-update-on-human.html

Now that the family finally knows that Gao is alive, they need assistance to:

· cover travel costs for Gao's family in China to visit him in prison. The 4,500-kilometer (2,800-mile) trip to the prison in Xinjiang takes three days.

· cover legal defense costs.

Gao's wife and children also need help with their living expenses, especially first-year college expenses for Gao's daughter.

Would you please consider continuing your support of brother Gao and his family with a donation to help cover these needs? If yes, please click the following link to help:

Here at ChinaAid, we can assure you that we will neither rest nor relent until Gao has regained his full freedom and is reunited with his family.

  • I t really makes me SICK to my stomach!!!!!

when some1 puts a video of a farting cat or baby u can expect MILLIONS of views....

While here u see a 1st class undermining of what life on earth is all about: FREEDOM, of speech, of mind, of everything we should value!!!!

and it counts 2100 views =/

My sympathies and love goes out too his family and the man himself.

I'm not a god fearing man and am an atheist......but I'll pray for this man....

  • More people need to care!

  • This regime has been ruling China for 60 years, using the same repression that the world has seen in Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Communist Russia. How long will it takes us to learn to stand together against criminal regimes?

  • GodBless.

  • Does anyone know what has happened to him? I got an email stating that there are rumors going around that he may have been tortured to death! We must pray for his family!! I also read in an email from VOTM that his daughter is so distraught over this whole thing she had to be hospitalized in New York. If anyone knows please let me know. Until then I will continue to pray for my brother...

  • Our family and congregation will continue to pray Gao Zhisheng. He is our brother in Messiah Yeshua. May his faith fail not. (Lk 22:32). May he receive the Holy Spirit with power to overcome. May the very people who torture Gao be changed, repenting for their sins and turn their hearts to the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob. May the Light of Yeshua cover Gao and keep him through this darkness. We cry out to YHVH God for His healing power to mend every womb suffered at the hand his enemies. Amen.

  • Chilling music, some of this is striking down humanity. Hoping he'll be freed soon.

Found out on another video on You Tube that 70%American teens claim to be Christian well they're not the ones that are taken, whipped, beaten, salt shoved down their throats, etc.

So, many things vay for our attention, MP3 players, Nintendo, cell phones,

Sometimes persecution is the LAST thing on our minds. Sometimes we need to wake and smell the coffee brewing because persecution is rolling. Near the West.

  • Hey CCP you're not being fair.

Wish I could take Gao's place.
