The U.S. Constitution has provisions relating to the delivery of mail, but the US Postal Service says that it is going bankrupt, and needs Congressional Authority before it can reform. Is there any hope for the United States Postal Service? Should we say farewell to regular mail delivery? Find out.

  • It's weird that so many on the left say the 2nd amendment is no longer needed, but the postal service is.

  • Just end the Prohibition on free market competition in providing the good or service.

All we need do is remember what happened when the prohibition on alcohol sales and production came about.

The only legitimate prohitions are those against offending the equal-to-yours-rights of any other individual. I'm thankful my culture has evolved from that of British and Western cultural traditions and British Common Law.

  • ahh i love idiots who have no idea what they are talking about. Nobody sits in the swing rooms for months, we ARE NOT PAID BY TAXES and we DELIVER fed ex and ups. Also 2006 was the MOST PROFITABLE year the post office ever had. keep up the misinformation guys.

  • what - you guys haven't seen MIB 2? I could offer solutions, but it would pretty much just be more noise in the crowd.

  • what a monopoly

  • Okay well they have a line of operating credit that is maxxed out at the treasury, but nothing from general revenues.

  • There is one glaring fact that was missed by the panel. The USPS does not receive any funding from the government. No tax dollars subisidize the post office. They are stricken with horrible unions and congressional mandates that do not allow to function like a private enterprise, yet they are not federally funded.

They will have to be made back into the Postal Department and bailed out or privatized, they cannot continue to function as they are.

  • "Congress should move quickly..."

Is that one for the blooper reel, Mr. Ott? ^_^

  • The media never mentions that Congress mandates Saturday deliver, mandates the USPS to deliver to all residents, Mandates the USPS to not make a profit, Mandates prefunding for 75 years worth of benefits ($5.5 billion per year), and the overpayments of $50 billion dollars that the Post Office was overcharged by the Federal government. And these guys seem to cheer the Postal Service's demise, and the elimination of 220,000 middle class jobs. Are they really for economic recovery ?

  • There was a time when a postal service made sense. That time is long over thanks to the Internet. Today, the great majority of the business of the USPS is delivering "junk mail".

The time has long since come that the US Gov't MUST remove the USPS monopoly privilege, allow people the choice of preferred mail carriers, end the subsidies and, when (not if) the USPS fails just let it go the way of the Edsel.
