whats so bad about wanting to be the biggest and the best? i think that is what makes the germans so reliable. people like hans should be respected not only as pilots but also as men how live their dreams.

Very cool video. At least something decent came out of those God awful wars. Well, come to think of it quite a few modern conveniences came out of the wars but I think gliding may be one of the best! :-)

@bestamerica actually the long wing is producing a lot of lift for the airplane, while still having almost no drag, because its so slim. It's remarkable engineering to build such a long and slim wing strong enough. This thing has about the best glide angle you can get in airplanes!

@markian0803 The ETA is way to big for my taste. It´s performance in a straight line is blistering, but it can´t turn worth a damn. It´s a point and shoot glider. It´s at lot funnier to fly the smaller gliders (15m or 18m classes), they can actually maneuver.

@devilliers123 He was flying gliders before WWII, like a lot of other Germans. Because of the Versaille peace treaty, not because of Colditz. And today they are the undisputed leaders of glider design and production, and they deserve it. I have flown a lot of different gliders over the years, but none have matched the German designs. BTW I´m not German.
