  • yeah, it only showed here in chico for like...a week and it only had something like 4-5 showings daily (as opposed to other "new" movies that get something like 8-9 showings daily, sometimes on two different theaters).

my roommate and i watched milk via netflix. it was easily one of the best movies i have ever seen and i wish more people could have seen it prior to voting on prop 8.

  • Yeah, it might have changed some hearts and minds.

  • @Rhyse001 I don't know that I'd say that Darren Aronofsky is better than Gus Van Sant, I'd just say different. They make completely different kinds of films. Gus Van Sant has definitely had some misses -- I thought Elephant was an awful movie. But they are both very talented directors.

  • darren> gus in general

  • I'm sorry you didn't like it. But, hey, that's what makes movie going interesting -- not everyone likes the same things.

  • I've heard a lot of good things about The Wrestler. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Milk isn't a movie that just appeals to gay folks. Did you see it? It's hard to understand how you could label it "mediocre". It's easily the best acting that Sean Penn has ever done, and that's saying something. I found the film very moving.

  • Thanks, glad you liked it. And I'm glad that Harvey Milk is finally getting the recognition that he deserves.

  • nice review. I liked the tie to the other film. The book the Mayor of Castro Street. I know of Harvey Milk, but my adolescence was much closer in time than a lot of people today. I think its a testament to the mans life that all these years later people are still talking about him. good or bad....

  • The problem with that is that a paid movie reviewer has to watch whatever movie they are told to review. So I would sometimes have to watch BAD movies! As it is, I only watch the films I want and I'm very picky. And I don't really think I'd want to spend THAT much time watching movies. But it's an interesting idea.

  • Wayne, thanks for the comment! Definitely catch "Milk" on DVD. BTW, NetFlix has "The Times Of Harvey Milk". That's who I got it from.
