Lyrics:
When I'm waken, and I'm achin, time for sleepin, yeah
When I'm sayin time to go and, I've been hurtin', yeah
When I'm layin, I'm still tryin, concentrating on dyin', yeah

You're right as rain, but you're all to blame
Agreed my crimes the same
My sins I'll claim, give you back shed pain
Go find a place for own shame
So you can deal with this thing unreal
No one made you feel any hurt, yeah

Body's movin, only provin, no one needs to move
Still believin', yet mistaken, all God's children, yeah
And I must say, I was stupid, selfishly she consumed, yeah

And you must change patterns all we trained
Or ner regain peace you seek
Now you hear me, for the things I see
Yeah, I believe in inner peace, yeah

Throw out, blow up, hold in
Show fine, no signs, grow blind

  • alice in chains is and always will be my favorite band. there is just none that can make me feel the same. its too bad when layne died i was only in kindergarden or i would have cried my eyes out now that im 16. wish i was 16 back in 2002. R.I.P layne you are never forgotten and alice in chains has helped me through so many problems. thanks

  • This song blows my mind when i focus on that line, "concentrating on dying" in all its seriousness and implications

  • This song, its rhetoric is in fact ... vaguely biblical, also, cf, the "yeas", "amens", etc. of choir music. The layered guitars resemble organs. You could say its rhetorically christian or spiritual, but the themes of hardship endured and seeking with god means its actually about: knighthood -- which is a theme that runs through all their music.

  • Took me a lot of years to appreciate this track, RIP LAYNE every track is golden.

  • My Fav AIC song of all time.... for me this song just evoke all kinds of emotion...

  • Its a shame lane died. heroin is a big problem in washington state

  • I had this song on heavy rotation in my truck during a particularly low point in my life in '97. It reminds me of how us men are supposed to be tough and keep a stiff upper lip when deep down inside you just want to scream for a reason not to put a bullet into your own head.

  • the most beautiful song of alice in chains i have heard. what a loss Layne was :(

  • I miss him so much...I named my little girl Kalen Staley... After this gifted man...R.I.P man..We all miss you.
