Dr. Yehuda Kurtzer of the Engaging Israel Project at the Shalom Hartman Institute describes how ultra-Orthodox have gained a presence in the Israeli public square and calls on other groups to "push back" against this by providing a compelling democratic and pluralistic vision of Judaism in Israel. This video blog was recorded in Jerusalem in January 2012. (For more on this subject read, "Incredibly Loud and Extremely Close," by Engaging Israel's Suzanne Last Stone on iengage.org.il
I do not see, how Yehuda can say that a militant segregationist/anti-zionist culture on behalf of a few Haredim fanatics can be called "Jewish culture". I have no issues with the Haredim, but I do believe that they need to work, serve in the IDF and stop the misogyny. I find the content of this video bizarre coming from the Hartman Institute and would appreciate feed back. Thanks.
