After an American mother sent her 7-year-old adopted son back to Russia, Moscow said it was suspending adoptions to US families. A high level delegation from the U.S. State Department is scheduled to meet with Russian officials in Moscow on April 29 and 30. The officials will talk about how to better protect children and all parties involved in international adoptions. For the moment though, many American families who have applied to adopt a Russian child worry about whether their adoption process will continue. VOA's Elizabeth Lee has more details on the obstacles in U.S.-Russian adoptions and what adoptive parents are saying about them.

  • Okay adoption is great everywhere right? Yea I agree with adoption all the way BUT why is it that Americans are adopting foreign children? We have a crap ton of children here in the USA without parents or caregivers. I think we should worry about our own before everyone elses'. =/

  • @LCNL2010 I've asked myself this many times...especially those celebrities who go all the way to Asia and Africa and adopt from there when there are orphanages with children who are just as deserving of a home as children from those continents in their own backyards. Makes you think, are they doing it to look good or do they genuinely care for them?

  • @LCNL2010 well one of the reasons is that it cost to much i have been told by my trainer who has tried to adopt a child from here and only ended up losing thousands of dollars and still did not get the son she wanted (they would not let her adopt anyone) and the reason why was because she was a single mother russia on the other hand allows single moms to adopt and it is a lot easier and quicker im sure that what happened to her dose not happen often though

  • @pinksugarmice omg stfu Kony 2012 is a scam.

  • KONY 2012

  • @LCNL2010 Cause you can't adopt here in the usa and those kids parents can always change and get them back and it takes years to adopt here.

  • This video makes me happy(: Im adpoted from russia!!! Ily <3 i think we shoud care for children all over the world!(: and fyi me and my sister turned out fine(:

  • Do people in North American not have any idea about what these children in foreign orphanages have experienced! Turn on your TV's people, go on line. The countries the children are coming from are poor, really poor and the children have often been tramatized.

Be prepared to put your money and time where your mouth is!!!

  • @LynRiddle I don't know about celebrities, but I think "normal" people who adopt children from other countries might do it, because orphanages in other countries might be worse than in USA. I mean in USA they probably don't hit the children anymore and treat them well. Maybe other countries dont have enough money to give these orphans the same care as the orphanages in the USA-- no idea.

  • @LCNL2010 COS NOBODY LIKE AMERICANS.. SPOILED FAT KIDS

  • A friend of mines is russian, she was adopted by an american family, her parents are great and shes an educated, successful and very happy, its a shame that this woman did what she did she did not handle it well, being a parent is hard but the results of good parenting are endless. Hopefully that boy can find a home and is given a chance to grow and learn like any child should.

  • It's not that simple. American adoptions don't always work out, the mothers decide they want to keep the children, older children are more likely to go back to the families than be adopted by their foster families.
