Warko use constant clamping force (horizontal) : the different orthogonal (to the hub) force needed will result by the cone balancing.

  • Yes of course, on bench test, you can check it in my videos "WARKO THE CVT: bench test"

  • does tis actually work?

  • @monstercameron yes on bench test and now we are putting it into a car demonstrator

  • @infiniteDefinitives, I'd have to read more about it. I don't see how a traction-friction transmission can avoid heat production and waste of power. Of course, the CVT aspect is desirable. Nuvinci bike transmission owners like their Nuvincis, for instance, but know they are fairly heavy and fairly "draggy" compared to old school chain and gear set ups. No way around it, I don't think. Open for education. Got links, folks?

  • @ampdavolts Hey there, I believe I read that the toroidal-type CVT can achieve efficiency (~heat) equivalent to or even greater than that of a manual transmission. This isn't a toroidal, but it seems like it follows the same sort of functional form. What do you think?

  • It is amazingly similar to the Nuvinci. The failing of this sort of transmission is that it must rely on friction, fluid-contact, pressure, deformation of the contacting surfaces. It offers benefits, but will be, like the Nuvinci, "lossy": lose energy in the form of heat. Nothing is likely to ever obsolete the classic geared transmission. All mechanical transmissions have weak points and good qualities, and must be applied as common sense best indicates. Rolling gear teeth remain the standard.
