DAME EVELYN GLENNIE

Evelyn Glennie wuchs auf dem Bauernhof ihrer Eltern in Aberdeenshire auf und fing mit zwölf Jahren an, Pauke, Trommeln und Xylophon zu spielen.
Aufgrund einer Nervenkrankheit verschlechterte sich zur gleichen Zeit ihr Hörvermögen so stark, dass sie einige Jahre später nur noch ein Hörvermögen von 20 % hatte. Töne und Musik nimmt sie seither hauptsächlich über Vibrationen wahr.
Später studierte sie an der Royal Academy of Music in London Klavier und Schlagzeug.
Konzertreisen führen sie nach Japan, Europa und häufig in die USA. Sie tritt mit den großen Orchestern der Welt und mit den wichtigsten Ensembles für zeitgenössische Musik auf und gibt zahlreiche Solokonzerte,
Für die Einspielung der „Sonate für 2 Klaviere und Schlagzeug von Béla Bartók gewann sie 1988 einen Grammy. Glennie wurde mit 15 Ehrendoktorwürden von britischen Universitäten geehrt.
1993 wurde sie mit dem Orden "Officer of the Order of the British Empire" (OBE) ausgezeichnet und 2007 als "Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire" (DBE) in den britischen Adelsstand erhoben.
Ehrenamtlich ist sie für gemeinnützige Organisationen für Gehörlose, Menschen mit Behinderung und junge Musiker tätig.

evelyn glennie is not deaf - just hard of hearing or deafened. thats the difference from profoundly deaf people grown up without hearing and speaking experience!

thats why it is not a big wow for what she can.

This is right, she is hard of hearing.

The subject here is that she explains how one can find the feeling to the music. The ears are not important here, but the body is important.

She informs with big success also deaf, also people who were born deafly.

I agree with firedagne I have been deaf since three but being able to hear people speaking and sounds and growing up in a choir singing with a musical family around me .Now my hearing has deteriorated and I may get a cochlear implant and I play guitar and piano and sing . So she has used her musical abilities as well as her gift of lipreading and learning how to experience sounds and is a great artist .
