The idea that this,, all this, can be elicited from university students... All my respect and admiration for those with this kind of leadership ... what a contrast to our mountebank politicians! I taught for forty-five years -- if I could have organized even the equivalent of five bars of this.......

So @ll Angus dei, is from Sanuel Barber the arrangement in 1936, the same year as he wrote the quartet. It was performed for the first time in 1938, in a radio broadcast from a New York studio attended by an invited audience, conducted by Arturo Toscanini, who also took the piece on tour to Europe and South America. It is disputed whether the first performance in Europe was conducted by Toscanini or Henry Wood. Its reception was.....

samuel barber was gay! but he composed this piece. hum...is he now rotting in hell or playing the harp in heaven? can any religious fanatic tell me?

Exquisitely performed, very well recorded rendition of this piece. This is one of my favorite pieces to sing though keeping composure throughout is nearly impossible for me.
