I agree. The movie was okay but it could've been better. The Octopus was the film's do redeemable factor. Also it does have some comic relief moments (e.g. one of the bald henchman commits seppuku and interrupts halfway through his execution/suicide) and the climax admittedly was well-done.

However the film could've been much better. The worst part is that the Spirit itself is pretty much Batman if Batman was a part-time gigolo.

The Spirit was HORRIBLE! The film just went south and never came back. The pacing was bizzare and hard to follow. I can see the film noir style presented and trying to not copycat other flicks but its direction did NOT pay off. Beware of slick trailers like this one. Do have to say that the trailer for the movie turned me on to Hybrid's "Choke" which I just purchased recently as a MP3.
