  • is it 8 by 11?

  • @zwettles No, it's not made from a 8.5 x 11 inches letter paper, but from a Silver Rectange / A4 / (1:√2), which measures about 8.27x11.69 inches.

  • emmm HVS is a comon printer paper...not 4 origami actualy...too thick...hehehe...but i dont have any origami paper stock...so i use HVS paper...I love this dolphin so much...but...1 weakness...I can't create it anytime, anywhere I want...coz it use spesific size of paper (silver rectangle)...lil bit disappointed...

  • What's the weight of the particular paper you're using? 20 lb. is light enough to work.

Actually, silver rectangles can be easily made. I once made this dolphin in a restaurant from a page in an ad booklet. The one I most often use, which is from a square, can be found in the first result for "Joseph Wu silver rectangle." Other ways can be found by searching for, "origami silver rectangle."

  • hahaha!! I made it!! it's hard enough...that diagram is not clear enough me...i must look the video and diagram over and over...but still...not good enough...I think in Indonesia, the A4 has a same size with europe's...but I don't have much A4 paper yesterday ^^ I made it in HVS...not good enough...what kind of paper u use to create this dolphin?? thin but strong...

  • I'm glad that the video can be helpful.

HVS? What is that kind of paper?

That paper isn't ideal (it's actually a little too thin). This model can be folded well out of just simple printer paper. However, for your first few tries, you should try something thinner. Try the largest origami foil paper you can find.

  • ahahahah!! great...thx 4 ur help...now i can make this dolphine anytime (if I get big enough paper) anyway, thx 4 sharing ^^ now my origami skill increase ^^

  • The size (or proportions) definitely matters. It's a "silver rectangle," a rectangle of proportions √2:1. If you live in Europe or in most places that aren't the US, that's the right proportion of paper. If you must cut from US letter paper, that's 27.94 cm:7.78 cm, 27.94 cm being the long side of US paper.

  • can u give me the size ur paper in cm?? I dont know the size...it maybe take effect...

  • If you're referring to the linked-to diagrams, first make sure you did step 13 right. Take a fin flap and inside reverse it as far as possible, which is step 14. The edges of the fin will be at the same angle as the edge of the model behind it.
