Director of PharmedOut explains the project

PharmedOut (http://www.pharmedout.org) is an independent, publicly funded project that empowers physicians to identify and counter inappropriate pharmaceutical promotion practices. Dr. Adriane Fugh-Berman is the principal investigator for Pharmedout, which is funded through the Attorney General Consumer and Prescriber Education grant program.

  • RockDoc50 has nothing to contribute but ad hominem attacks. Probably best to ignore his comments. PharmedOut rocks. It provides good info..all one has to do is fact check and find out for yourself.

  • This is biased anti-pharma propoganda. This individual stands to benefit both professionally and financially from bashing the pharmceutical industry.

  • Smart docs are brainwashed by cute and dumb drug reps. The problem is not FDA regulation, but how drug reps misrepresent their drugs including off label promotion. Most of them don't even know the chemicals' name of the bottle. Their most purpose is to learn you and become "fun friends" with you so you can feel easy and prescribe their drugs even of label. Sodas are not life threatening, medicine is!

  • the big picture is all about mass marketing insecurities and selling false confidence jesus its so easy, someone will come along now and debase my whole argument on punctuation its all a joke to me.

  • I guess we are all brainwashed! From people selling cars...to people selling sodas...what are we to do? Stop marketing sodas! They have side effects too!! In the case for pharmaceutical marketing...it's been reviewed by the FDA and it is being marketed under the regulations enacted by them. More importantly, the meds have scientifically been proven to have a benefit even over the risk. Do other products you consume or utilize have this science behind them? Most docs are smart..by the way!

  • you people are nuts

  • Clearly, "jaffurs" works for Big Pharma ... who else would write "lifesaving compounds"?

Thankfully, these former drug reps have come forth with the truth. Docs should know they're being hoodwinked.

Of course there are beneficial drugs. But the problem lies with Big Pharma's use of intentionally deceptive tactics to get docs to prescribe their drugs. Pharma DOES invent med problems where none exist - from natural childbirth to menopause - these are natural events and not diseases.

  • This lady is totally on target. While the pharmaceuticals do great good by developing life saving drugs, they overmarket drugs to the detriment of our healths. Doctors are brainwashed and therefore, so are patients.

  • She does not say overactive bladder is an invented disease, she says overactive bladder syndrome is.

Normal voiding occurs 4-8 or 9 times a day. That's about once every 2 hours max. What's the definition of 'frequent' when diagnosing overactive bladder syndrome? It's not set in stone is it? It all depends on the person's intake of fluids, medication - what about blood pressure? As everyone is different - there are normal variations and this probably goes back to this lady's point.

  • She contends that the industry in "inventing" diseases, and lists overactive bladder as one of them. Go seek out a urologist and ask them if overactive bladder is a real condition. Again, this is 100% rubbish.
