East Hartford - Arkeel Newsome ran 42 times for 364 yards and three touchdowns as top-ranked Ansonia beat No. 3 Ledyard Saturday, 38-0, in the Class M final at Rentschler Field.
It was a state-record 17th state championship for the Chargers (14-0).
Newsome set the state's single-season record for rushing yardage (3,763). Former Ansonia tailback Alex Thomas had rushed for a record 3,596 yards in 2007.
Newsome also set state single-season records for touchdowns (62) and points (388).
Elliot Chudwick threw touchdowns Raeshaun Finney (7 yards) and Andrew Matos (8 yards).
Tyler Lester scored on a 6-yard run.
Alex Manwaring ran 23 times for 116 yards for Ledyard (11-2).
