@melevy, the city water pressure in DC is so low, that the fire hydrants in the immediate area didn't have enough pressure to even flow. A good hydrant was finally obtained almost 4 blocks away. We want to get water on the fire as much as the owners of the building do, but we can't do so without water pressure.

Seems like it took an awful long time before the fire dept started to do much of anything.

Thank you for capturing this footage and posting it. It seems like it was just yesterday. I was stuck in traffic that day in Georgetown and had no idea what was occurring. Now I can see why the streets were closed and what happened first hand to this lovely library.

Anybody know the original works housed at this library?
Tommy7421,
This is an important historical moment that you captured, as painful as it was to watch. When the Peabody Room, the Georgetown history special collections that was located on the second floor, east end (screen left) of the building, reopens in about three years, this footage will be added. Thank you.

sshistory,
I have almost 20 minutes of video of the whole fire and several photographs. If you would like to have all of the video and photographs, please let me know. I can get them to you on a disc or something. The videos are rather large.
