BLU's application video for a partial sponsorship from FiveUltimate for the 2009-2010 season:
We are applying for the competitive program sponsorship because we are consistently one of the top teams in the country. We first qualified for nationals 4 years ago (as a third year team) and have qualified every year since. In fact we are the only team, outside of the central region, to have qualified for Nationals for each of the past 4 years (Wisconsin and Carleton have both qualified from the central region). In that time we reached the finals once, lost in semi-finals twice, and lost once in quarter-finals.
The Southern California section is one of the toughest sections in the country (UCSD, UCSB, USC) and yet we have won sectionals 3 out of the last 4 years (ironically the year we didn't win our section was the year we finished 2nd at nationals). The Southwest region is arguably the second toughest region in the country, and we have won regionals 3 out of the last 4 years. Outside of the college series we also consistently finish in the top of the most prestigious tournaments of the season such as Trouble in Vegas, the Stanford Invite, Pres Day, and Centex. Our program has also produced some of the best individual college players. In just 6 years as a team we have placed 4 players among the Callahan award finalists (Anna Nazarov - callahan winner, Pooja Shah - 2nd place, Angie Sanan and Jamie Nuwer - 4th place). This speaks to the strength of our program, as none of these players played ultimate before college.
In addition to our competitive success we have a strong passion for upholding the spirit of the game and the joy of ultimate. We have a well-deserved reputation for this, and in the past 4 years at Nationals we've averaged a 3rd place finish in the Spirit Rankings.
Traveling to all these great tournaments costs a lot of moola, and we really appreciate Five Ultimate giving back to the community in the form of sponsorships (among other ways). We would love to rock the competition in some sweet Five gear. And our goals are not just limited to on field competition. We also strive to be the hottest team in women's ultimate. After all what's the point of winning if you can't look good?
