Got to be honest mate, i'm amazed you didn't manage to slice someone to bits with it! You were testing what amounted to a very large meat slicer, at body height, on the edge of a path with cyclists and people walking by on a public beach..what if the wind changed direction and the blades swung around into the road or a passer by? It sounded like your young family was there too...nice work on your experiment, it looks good, but i'd go along with others and say longer blades, but think safety too!

where is this place

Why don't you rip off the white blades that the motor has to cool itself. They are obviously not needed in this installation and they only drag the rotor. peace
-
the higher up the more wind.
-
Surface area counts when it comes to the blades. Small blades can handle high rpm but only in good wind. For low winds speed need larger blades.

your daughter's super cute.

heres another thing that will help put the wide end of the blade fartest away from the input shaft this will give more power to turn the shaft
-
you not only need gear's but you also need longer blades and ether wider blades or more blades, use a ford generator it put out 90 amps at 12 volts and mybe more if not regulated,

Little Details. The blades are fitted not as efficiently as possible. You're supposed to have the wide straight side on the front not on the back. That will help.

add another wheel .. so you get a better ratio ... Like have a big wheel being pushed by the axis ( eg. the wheel could be 26"with a belt pushing the wheel on the alternator\motor ) so for every one complete turn the 26"diameter wheel makes the wheel on the alternator\motor turns about 15 times ...15:1 ratio ... just if you didn't have the set up ( you likely to need a bigger windmill tho ) ... good vid tho

anyone tried___ w w w diymagneticmotor com ?

you need alot biger blades to spin that. the huge generator you have is way too mutch friction to work
-
You need HUGE blades to turn the rotor to capacity
-
@spikeychops You're right about safety. Have been doing better since then.

More blades, longer, lighter materials as well as picking a higher or good spot where wind collects
I just completed the first part of the class and I can already say everything is wrong with my assembly. I'll have to redesign the whole windmill to make it more balanced, more stable, with less vibrations, and frictions.
After trying it so many times, the stress at the base of the blades is apparent. I'll try next time with PVC. To make the motor go faster, a gear system would definitely help: I'll explore that option in my future design as well.

I decided to take some mechanical engineering design classes. I'm loving it. I know, I'll make something better after I'm done with it. Will take all your inputs into consideration.

You have power but what motor is that? Have you access to a Hvac ECM motor? you will have to rewire it. Love the kid, doesent like shoes eh.

@walkertongdee: The motor is a simple permanent magnet one and no, I dont have access to HVAC ECM Motors.
