Just me riding on a train in The Netherlands with my bicycle and heading toward Arnhem from Groningen. In The Netherlands, you can board any train with your bicycle straight away. ThAT is so intelligent and advanced. I wish I could do this in my country. In the USA your forced to purchase and pilot your own car at your own risk, and if your cool, you can but a bicycle rack on an automobile for your big trip to nowhere :-)

  • Yes, and the cost is 10 Euros. I think it is well worth it. Here in Seattle it's free to put your bicycle on the bus, but lately more and more people are takingthe bus with bicycle, and there are only two or three slots per bus. Last week I was late for work because i the bike rack was full on the bus :-(

  • @mariojragucci2 For this distance it is: for me it's to expensive, as the trips by train are to short for me.

I have seen those bike-racks on the buses over there on soms videos and I find thát quite impressive as a Dutchie ;) Here you can take your folded bicycle on the bus, but the problem is that there isn't a real rule for it: the driver will let you know if he allows it or not: if he says no: bad luck, and you'll have to get off. The bike-rack on buses won't work here: to expensive...

  • @weeardguy The bicycle racks on the busses here in SEattle are great, except when there are more than 2-3 bicycles. The folks get bent out of shape. Or, if your at a bus stop and there are two bicycle riders that wantto get on ;)

  • the trains aren't quicker, the destinations are closer.

  • @mariojragucci2 Now I wonder: I don't know how the transport-system is over there, but here many buscompanies have to end their services after a certain period, and hand it over to another company (a stupid system)

But most of the time, those hand-over periods are the time when the demands for the new PT-company are announced: so is something like 'More bike-slots on buses' a political issue over there?

  • A small note to the bycicle-on-train thing: your only allowed to board a train with a normal bycicle outside the peak-hours, and an additional fee applies.

A folding-bike is accepted at all times, to no additional charge, but (ofcourse) it has to be folded. ;)

About the speed: The highest speed your train probably gained was 140 km/h. At bigger stations, the speed is reduced to 40 km/h
