Absolutely there would be no Clay singing "Solitaire" without Neil. I loved that song when The Carpenters did it and am always blown away when Clay sings it.
Seeing Clay perform "Solitaire" at a Neil Sedaka tribute confirmed a statement Mr Sedaka
made when Clay performed it on American Idol. With tears in his eyes he said "Bravo Clay, I have lost my song forever to you. It will always be a Clay Aiken song".
They are both masters of their art.

lost the performance of that song sure. But there would be no Aiken ver with out Neil writing it in the first place.
