He carried the gun for protection. I don't know if you keep up with football but cases of football players getting mugged or killed(Steve Mcnair and Sean Taylor) is not all that uncommon anymore. He shouldn't have to be a prisoner in his own home because he makes a lot of money. He should be able to have fun just like everyone else, so for protection he carries a gun. The permit expired just a few months before the incident. Now his wife and kids are without their dad, don't beat a dead horse.

Why would you bring a gun to a nightclub?
And if you MUST have it, why have a round in the chamber and without the safety on? This clown deserves everything he gets, he could have easily accidentily shot and/or killed someone else. The consequences of his actions serve to ensure that he won't be so stupid in the future (let's hope). He, like Michael vick, is only apologetic because he now must face what he did, and it is the only way for him to save face.
