Stieg Larsson was a Swedish journalist working for a semi-underground newspaper in Stockholm when he wrote three novels concerning the exploits of crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist and antisocial computer hacker Lisbeth Salander. He died before they were published, and the books have gone on to become international best-sellers. All three novels have been made into films in Larsson's home country, and English-language adaptations are on the way. The first of these is "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.

In this video I give relatively spoiler-free summaries of each novel (I'm a bit vague on the third as I don't want to give too much away) as well as my thoughts and criticisms on each. They are:

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl who Played with Fire
The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

By the way, YouTube informed me last week that I am now "enabled" to post videos longer than fifteen minutes. How much longer? Just check out the running time on this baby! I wonder how far I can push this...

  • Not the easiest books to read but if you get into the first one your hooked. I really enjoyed hearing your review and I look forward to seeing the movies in English.

  • "fun" isn't the term i would use for these books... very odd description. but maybe the issues raised in these books don't really hit home for you and so you see these books strictly as entertainment...

  • Couldn't get through the stieg Larson series. Poor man died before his novels became famous. Bless his soul

  • @iloveyoutoobians - I'm so very sorry. Glad I could help in some small way.

  • My wife was just shot recently and I'm a mess. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time I guess. She loved movies and this book series. Your videos have been cheering me up a lot, lately. Thank you
