Never understood why all the Byrdsmaniacs doesn 't insist more what a tragic loss was Gene Clark departure ! Listening to such jewels as"Gene Clark" 1971 LP and Roadmaster are the arguments. Michel

….And how regrettable it is that he didn 't stay long in the group. Seeing his later work and Jim Mc Guinn, the cosignature of Gene Clark/Jim Mc Guinn for an hypothetic Byrds ideal band between 1966 - 1970, wld have put them on the same and so far not equalled status of Lennon/ Mc Cartney.An all time best songwriter duo in Pop history.

thanks for this . I have the two preflyte LP + " In the beginning " 1988 LP, that added other material from the WPS recordings. . Even they have been considered as demos, they should' nt have been treated as such by the variuous Byrds biographers and followers. To me, all 6 songs all written by Gene Clark at World Pacific Studios where already masterpieces . They had simple melancoly and melodic textures. Those early work prove Gene Clark was the main force in the band ….
