I was invited to sing during the Christmas Eve service and was asked by my choir director to sing O Holy Night. I was actually unaware of when I would be singing in the service, so I was surprised when they started passing down the lit candles... so from my point of view, I got to watch all the candles be lit up in the dark... it was really really pretty. I basically forgot I was singing in front of about 400 people until the very end when a little kid screamed right at the pretty part. I almost laughed actually- I had a big grin on my face as I sang the last two words. The kid contributed so well, at the very end, you can see the choir director (J.K. Weger) stand up and motion for people to applaud for the kid too :)

2010 Woodlawn Baptist Christmas Eve Service, Austin, TX . The pianist is Mike Figer.

Lyrics:

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
'Til He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! O hear the angels' voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night Divine.

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
His power and glory evermore proclaim.

Fall on your knees! O hear the angels' voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night Divine.

  • It was a candle light service. Quite common for a Christmas Eve church service which is to representative of Christ (the Light) coming into the world.

  • Why is everyone moving around while she sings? How rude.

  • Beautiful voice.
