Iranians have always referred to their homeland as "Iran". This is obvious in mass of Iranian literature such as Ferdosi's masterwork the magnificent "Shahnameh", the pahlavi sources, and so forth.
However, Iran was referred to as Persia in the west and in most non-Iranian text such as the bible. The terms Iran and Persia refer to the same noble nation and people.
