  • I go to an arts high school in las vegas, and I'm the jazz horn player there. I am so thankful for having an open minded director when it comes to having non-traditional instruments incorporated into the jazz world...Jazz is my first love over classical, and because of those close minded people out there, I'm going to have to major strictly in classical for college next year because jazz is MUCH more risky for a horn player. :( I'm double majoring in jazz compos. to revolutionize the jazz world.

  • @Universlmusician good for you! Wille Ruff once told me to play as many different kinds of music, as much of the time, as I could. Just keep at it and do a LOT of listening! Good luck!

  • @mtaylorjazz Thanks! I Will! Oh and I meant to say this, but I didn't have enough room in my previous comment. You played beautifully, and I am inspired, as a jazz horn player, by your performance. :)

  • @Universlmusician Thank you!

  • @Universlmusician the point of jazz is "defy all preconceptions," show em something original. sadly, i've never had an open minded director, but i love the idea of something cool and different like that. be sure and give me a taste of your first album haha

and i'm not being sarcastic either, jazz=risks

  • Simply sweet,man.

  • @njlizful Great answer, Libby!

  • @mtaylorjazz, I remember, back in the day, after I took on a solo on I-don't-remember-what, a young girl saying to me, "I didn't think horns could play jazz." My response was something like, "It's the person who plays jazz, not the horn."! Libby Schwartz, horn player.

  • while I can appreciate this song, I didn't personally like it, the tone seemed to switch between rough around the edges and sweet tone, and the solo between long blues tones and just slightly dissonant chords. It seemed as if mr. taylor couldn't decided if he wanted to do blues or bebop, and what came out I didn't care for. decent playing however, I can tell he is an excellent horn player.
