Actually, I think Thirlwell's music kinda revolves around this "sounds like on first impression but then not quite" illusion. The power of his tunes seem to spring completely from how the mere sound of the arrangements makes the broader movements sound convincing. But often if you focus on the melody you find it's hardly a melody at all or like a melody that cant make up its mind about itself. Very suitable to the pastiche and cynically postmodern undercurrents of the show. god Im pedantic...
