@possumGFX Persia still exists today, it's just called "Iran" by most people now. The name "Iran" is, in fact, an abbreviation of "Iranshah" (domain of the Aryans), which is a name the Persians used to refer to their own land since ancient times.

The Persians have gone nowhere. Alexander didn't kill them. Nor did the Romans, the Arabs, the Ottomans or Tamerlane.

Even though Thermopylae was a loss, The Spartans killed so many Persians that The Persian self proclaimed "God King" decided to return to Persia to bulk up his army before returning. But I was wrong about one thing, that is that The Athenians were not great. Because when The Persian army returned to Greece both The Spartans and Athenians were ready for them and the united Greek force crushed the entire Persian army.......Sorry if I gave the wrong impression @Nameinprogression.

So to inform people about how Great and Brave The Spartans were I told people about Thermopylae and how The Spartans held off hundreds of thousands of Persian troops actually killing thousands of them...The Battle of Marathon was a major Athenian victory and Thermopylae although a defeat it was a major Political, Tactical and Moral Spartan victory.....Sorry about the confusion.. So yes The Athenians defended Greece during The Battle of Marathon but The Spartans defended Greece at Thermopylae.

@Nameinprogression @Nameinprogression Well the whole conversation was about how everyone was being ignorant about the Spartans celebrating their week long holiday during The Battle of Marathon. People were saying that the Spartans are overrated warriors, and they were also saying that the Spartans were afraid of the Persians because instead of fighting in the Battle of Marathon the Spartans celebrated their week long holiday.

But the Persians did find the "Goat Pass" then they slaughtered the Athenians in the back and the Spartans in the front. If the Athenian Forces had guarded the "Goat Pass" They could have funneled the Persians in the "Goat Pass" leading to a largely one sided United Greek victory over the massive Persian army.....This is why I say that the Spartans did hold of hundreds of thousands of Persians while the Athenians sat back and watched until they were slaughtered for being Glory hungry. No Offence

The reason I blame the Athenians is because they were supposed to guard the now infamous "Goat Pass" that lead behind the Spartan forces who were easily defeating the Persian forces at the narrowed cliff choke point known as the now infamous "Hells Gates". The Athenian forces did not want to guard the "Goat Pass" because if the Persians didn't find the "Goat Pass" then the Spartans would get all the glory for defeating mighty Persians and the Athenians would not.

@Nameinprogression History class in High School, The History Channel, & H2 channel is how I know my history, Maybe you are right I did sell the Athenians a little short. Athens and Sparta were the 2 Greek City States who fought to defend Greece in Thermopylae. But in that battle the Spartans did most of the fighting and while 1,000 Athenians did lose their lives in that battle, It was the Athenians fault that the battle was lost.

@Nameinprogression Mate im a soldier,Ill be serving in Bamyan Province in 5 months.The US is loosing the war.Terrorism is in Africa,Western and Eastern Europe,America,England and the middle east.You do realize Even if in the next 20 years they win in the middle east there still will be terrorism,What about the other places with Taliban and Al Qaeda influence ? They not winning at all mate.BTW its Nato and the common wealth along with arab nations trying to win.Not just the US
