Morgan Freeman has said the same thing. There's video on YT somewhere of him saying he thinks Black History Month is ridiculous. He wants to dispense with it. He was talking to a Jewish interviewer and he said "when is Jewish History Month?" The guy said there isn't one and he wasn't sure he wanted a Jewish History Month. See, that sort of thing does trivialize black or Jewish or whatever history. Look for the video. It's interesting.

Just wanted to say this is one of my favourite clips on YouTube; I'd also like to rec that everyone watches the full video - probably Neil at his most honest and finest. He makes some great comments and provides some key insight on what it takes to persevere in research science. Hearing about his journey is quite inspiring.

I agree. Believing that ignoring racial designations will somehow eradicate racism is naive and ignores the structural inequalities that still exist between groups.

When ghetto's disappear and schools are no longer highly segregated THEN I'd say it's reasonable to no longer acknowledge race.

I'm old, so I've met a lot of people in my life. I've observed this: there are much greater & interesting differences between individuals than there are between any generalized categories between their 'groups', no matter how one chooses to group them. This should always call upon us to regard each person with the respect accorded every new experience. Each person is a source of amazement & adventure that will defy pre-conditions of our expectations, each a genius in his or her own way.
