plus the emporer had control over the troops using the force if you read some EU after the battle of endor after he died the star destroyers that were left fell in to confusion and were easy to destroy or they ran
hell even han solo joined think the empire was this great peace loving thing but he learned what it was really like some did not till it was to late

if you think about it the jedis were evil as the siths.
And the Empire wanted to keep peace, but the rebels didnt give them a chance. Allso the empire did somethings wrong, like they started to slave other speaces like Wookies, Geonosians, Mon Calamarians and others.

Well I may be wrong but as far as I understand most Jedi and Siths were poor but when their force sensitivity came to be noticed by the Jedi they were taken to Coruscant and lived well, the Sith didnt had formally the power to introduce someone in the republic but as they were masters infiltrators did the same, like when Darth Plageis made Palpatine a senator

The Galactic Empire seems to be a very good way of keeping the peace in the galaxy, best form of goverment. The empire shouldn't be seen as bad guys, they are just enforcing the peace.
