Edwin Gray (born January 17, 1948 in Glasgow, Scotland) was a cultured winger who was an integral member of the legendary Leeds United football team of the 1960s and 1970s, later twice becoming the club's manager.

Gray was a schoolboy international for Scotland, and signed professional forms for Leeds at the age of 16. He made his first team debut on New Year's Day 1966, less than three weeks before his 18th birthday, and would go on to play for the club for almost 20 years.

A winger in the classic mould, Gray was feted in world football for his ability to beat opposing full backs for pace and thought. As the Leeds team grew in stature and experience through the 1960s, Gray became a vital component of the team.

In 1968 he was in the Leeds team which won the League Cup and the Fairs Cup and then the League championship a year later. It was in 1970 that he made his most famous appearance in a Leeds shirt.

The team was chasing a unique "treble" of League championship, FA Cup and European Cup with Gray in sparkling form. He had already scored what many Leeds fans call the greatest goal ever by a Leeds player - a solo run past several Burnley players which involved flicks and backheels as he somehow got from the byline to a shooting position - when his day came at Wembley for the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

  • A truley great Left Winger. Beautifully balanced and graceful player. Loved taking people on. Didn't have blistering pace. But was quick. But his delivery of a cross and the ability to beat a defender with just shrugging his shoulders sometimes made you get out of your seat!

Suffered injuries at the wrong time in his career, otherwise he would have played more times for his country, and would have become recognised around the world. Played in a time when defenders were not protected.

  • I agree he was unlucky with injury or he would have been up there with the greats, but to me he is

  • @asianmancgman you do like stalking Leeds videos don't you? Our support is shit???? Hahahaha thanks for that I needed a laugh. 9,000 fans outsung 75,000 glory supporters for 90 minuets without a sound from the home fans and without having to act like scum and wave banners mocking deaths. Whose really got the shit support?

  • @asianmancgman

If this " joke " hadn't been so unlucky with injuries, he would have been regarded as a better player than

    george( I need a drink ) best

    FACT.

  • @asianmancgman

    You're such a fucking retard

  • @asianmancgman - To many people he wasn't.

  • @asianmancgman No he wasn't. Many top professional including Bobby Charlton have stated on more thn a few occaisions that if it wasn't for injuries he would have been a regular number 11 choice for Scotland... He was a great left winger

  • hahaha very inspiriing .. too bad they couldn't find a clip where he either ran past a defender or scored a goal.

  • song name ?? plzz tell me/!!!

  • ElectricAnus - Anybody who feels the need to tell complete strangers that he is '100% hetrosexual' (especially when he can't even spell the 'h' word correctly), is clearly someone who doubts their own masculinity. What a wonderfully impressive rutting stag you must be - in your mind's eye, that is.

  • But I am a Samaritan. Would you like to come to my bedsit? I will make you a roast shrew. I will lick the back of your head as you dine. Have you got a bag of watercress down your duffle coat?
