Wrecking equipment is bringing down the former Family Practice Center building at 610 Eighth St. SE in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009. The gymnasium behind the building was demolished earlier. Mercy Hospital School of Nursing students lived and attended classes in the six-story brick building after it was completed in 1946 until the program ended in 1971. In later years, it was home to Linn Community Care and other offices. The building's basement flooded in June and hospital officials decided to demolish the building rather than invest in repair.
