Lovely Melbourne, the city I lived and worked in from August 2005 to September 2006. In my humble and unbiased opinion it is the best city in Australia, contrary to what the Sydneysiders will tell you. The photographs are from in and around Melbourne: the city, St Kilda (my neighbourhood), sports, my home, festivals and parties. I was working at CSIRO that year, doing research on polymers and other biomaterials. It was a traineeship that I got through IAESTE, an international exchange program for students in technical fields. A lot of things happened that year: I met a lot of people, learned a lot, saw a lot, turned 21, tried a lot of new things, began my own freestyle cooking... I was offered a job at CSIRO for my graduate studies, but unfortunately polymers are not the field that I am interested in.

The song is I Will Not Go Quietly by the Whitlams.

-Melbourne city centre seen from Southbank
-the Rialto Towers in the city center
-Yarra River and Flinders St Station at the south end of the city centre
-Flinders St Station by night
-city centre at night
-Southbank in the morning
-the metal monstrosity that is Melbourne's Xmas tree
-a busker and his singing dogs
-sunset at St Kilda Beach
-Fitzroy St in St Kilda
-St Kilda Beach, empty in the winter
-Bollywood actors, I was an extra in one of their shots
-the Espy, always with live music
-Luna Park, creepy on the outside and expensive inside
-Cadbury-Schweppes building, the tallest near my house, and thus a guiding light at night
-some of my roommates
-the kitchen where my love of cooking began
-more roommates and myself
-my good friends Cicci and Karin, and myself, I met them again in Sweden in 2007
-the IAESTE Melbourne crew
-having lunch with some workmates
-the Belgian beer garden
-Chinese New Year, offering something green brings the shop or restaurant good luck
-the dragon
-businesses compete for who has the longest firecracker string
-chicken feet, not so good
-New Years's feast
-a group of us at that feast
-Aussie rules football pitch
-watching the St Kilda Saints, notice me with my Saint's scarf
-unfortunately they lost...
-Australian Open
-Pakistani party tram on the way to the Commonwealth Games rugby 7's event
-supporting my Canadian friends because the US is not in the Commonwealth
-the rugby pitch
-21st birthday dinner with Karin, Cicci and Ernesto
-21st birthday party, which I was sick at
-some Swedish friends (and roommate)
-learning about the crazy things that are done at the Swedish Midsummer festival
-Midsummer dinner
-last night out before heading to the US

  • lieve there from 1996 to 1997 and still missing it. Did you stay @ the graduate house? xD

  • Not sure about the graduate house, I stayed at a place near Fitzroy and St Kilda Streets. We called it the St Kilda mansion because it had 8 or 9 bedrooms!

  • holy crap muffins at 0.43 the guy with the dogs is my uncle

  • Hahaha, well I saw him every time I went into the city centre. Him and the Sonic Manipulator were my favourites.
