Jimmy was the only one that was really any good. The rest of them were backup. Also, I think although the song is okay, they sang it way too much in the movie. They should have written at least one more song for them to sing at their concerts. I guess this is where the term one hit wonders comes from. In reality, people would have quickly gotten bored with them if they kept singing the song over and over! I got tired of hearing it about the 4th time they sang it!
I was referring to the song, not the clip. Maybe "mimicry" is a better word. The chord progession, the scream, the chord at the end...don't they remind you of the Beatles??
BigBagOfPus has it correct, Adam Schlesinger, the bass player of Fountain of Wayne, wrote it, submited it to the producers, andwas shocked to find out it was accpted. Mike Viola sang the demo version and was asked to do the version for the movie because they liked his sound. Hanks did make the actors learn all the chords and words so that it would look authentic, but they aren't really making any sound at all.
