This is my speed run for The Legend of Zelda for NES. The video is from the summer of 2003, when I set a then-world record for speed. I actually won $100 contest for this run by being the first player ever to break the 36-minute barrier!

Riskier and faster paths through this game exist, as shown in many other internet videos. However, this is a good place to start, for anyone interested in taking their Zelda skills to new heights. The game is nearly impossible to complete this way, but other speed strategies are even tougher!

  • How do you avoid having the bombs hurt you? I've seen several moments where you just walk right through the blasts.

You are the most amazing Zelda player I've observed. Wow. My method is a slow one where I buy a blue ring and get all the heart containers I can. I could never imagine getting to your level of proficiency at this!

  • @AndrewMarcell Thanks! The bombs can't hurt you in this game. I've always been able to run through any blast without damage. I think that A Link to the Past is the first Zelda game where the bombs hurt.

  • does the record still count if is set on an emulator???

  • Nope. Emulators have too many functions that can be used to cheat. Among other things, you can slow the game down to increase precision and piece together thousands of short videos into one. Thus, if you want to set the record, use the real game.
