Joel Grimes - BEHIND THE SCENES - Lauren

A couple weeks ago my long time friend Kerrick James dropped by my studio with Pentax's latest 645D medium format DSLR. Kerrick let me take a few test shots with it of Lauren. The raw images looked amazing and now I'm wishing I had my friend around more often. Later I got the 5d mk II out with my trusted 50mm 1.4 and 24-105mm Canon Lenses. Lauren is a great subject and I always enjoy having her in the studio.

Hey Joel, just a question, were those paul c buff softboxes? they looked bigger

They are actually the 36x48 in. White Softbox Westcott modifiers.

Nope they're the Westcott 7' Octobanks. They're pretty big so it's really nice if you have a place to store them.

Joel, is that a new body for you or were you testing the Pentax ? I'm assuming its the 645d. How did you like it compared to your DSLR ? Worth the 15K ?

Thank you for sharing these videos with us. I have a question about your bowens quick ring that you're using on your octos - I just bought one to use with mine and I'm noticing that it has a 1/4-20 hole... What I'm wondering is did you enlarge this whole? Basically how do you make it work?
