it's hard to imagine that a hardened killer ever got so depressed that he let himself be killed. but then in many cases professional killers have had families as if they could protect them. the only motivation jesse could have had, was protecting his family. Instead of a DEA style raid with a machinegun in your family's face, after they hit the wrong house 10 times looking for you.

No it is called that because the book was. The kid was obsessed with him but grew to hate him more and more and most of the stuff he knew about was fake. Jesse was going to kill him one way or the other and with the midnight ride coming which is how one of their friends died by a shot in the back by Jesse. He did make plays because he thought everyone would think he was a hero for killing an evil man like Jesse, but no one did and he regretted killing him. The coward part was ironic.

He pretty much got assassinated cause' the kid that shot him was a little bitch that's why the movie is called "the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford' this kid was obsessed with him & pretty much wanted to be the one that got to say "I shot Jesse James" he made plays about him afterward then someone shot him. Hands down, one of the best film I've seen. Great soundtrack and probably the best performance by Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck.
