A cultural analysis of what causes zine makers to tick; what the hell zines are, why people make zines, the origin of zines, the resources and community available for zine makers, and the future of zines. Interviews with about 70 zine makers, ex-zine makers, and readers from the northwest. Featuring footage of the Portland Zine Symposium, a zine bicycle tour of Portland, and activities bringing zine culture to life. An original documentary culled from over 64 hours of footage. Best suited for people with a new interest in zines, pros, and novices. The video sparks untapped creativity and new interest into zine making and reading. Artwork by Cristy Road and music by J Church and Defiance, OH! Created by Basil Shadid, Rev. Phil Sano, Nickey Robo, and Joe Biel. 71 minutes with 28 minutes of bonus material. ISBN 0-9770557-5-2

  • microcosm is awesome but in all honesty i think they're a little bit too expensive especially considering all that they stand for. id like to order some DVD's (like this one) and t-shirts but i dont have the budget for em! good stuff though keep it up please

  • I'm not sure what your understanding of what Microcosm stands for is, but this DVD is $10 (and was $8 for the first three years) and was about 4 years of work. That's cheaper than anywhere else - especially for a video with zero funding.

As far as t-shirts being too expensive. We sell printed American made t-shirts cheaper than the same companies sell their blank shirts for. We were breaking even or losing money on shirts for most months.

Sorry that you can't afford them though...

  • oh sorry i might have come off wrong

i didn't mean to say you are over charging your customers, i just was taking a look at some DVD's and some were 25-30. of course that may be based on content/length/and the price of course you pay to distribute. again, sorry if i came off as putting microcosm down because that definitely wasn't my intention

  • Yeah, the DVDs that are $25-30 are priced that way because their publishers set those prices. We buy them at the corresponding discount and have to sell them at their prices. Which sucks, because yes, it is hard to fork over $25-30 for a DVD. That is why we price DVDs for $8-12 and books from $3-15. Trying to keep things at prices that people like us could afford to pay for them.

  • erm... 30% of the video is the cast and those who helped... wtf? lol anyway nice, i`m gonna rent a movie see ya

  • This isn't the final video. This is just a preview. The real thing is 71 minutes on DVD. Too long for youtube...
