Actually, this is his first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on September 9, 1956. Elvis Had Already been on the Dorsey Bothers stage show 6 times, on the Milton Berle Show twice, The Steve Allen Show once (including Variety hour cowboy sketch), and the Wink Martindale's Teenage Dance Party once (only for an Interview). He Appeared three times on The Ed Sullivan Show, and his last appearance on the Show (January 1957) would be his last TV appearance until his 1968 Special appearance
