We moved from the bridge and went to where one of the old train stations were near West Genesee and N. Michigan and caught a great view of the 1225 Christmas Train as it came through Saginaw Michigan.
@SantaFe158 I don't think so, her sister loco, Pere Marquette 1223 (which I am very familiar with) has a manuel swinging bell. None of the PM berks I believe had any form of automatic bells.
@mattdean1003 Actually, you might be surprised, but I believe that the bell on the 1225 has an air rocker, which makes it swing like normal, but is powered by air.
That's pretty awesome. I'm 22 years old and I've never seen a working steam locomotive except for in videos and on youtube here. 1225 has a glorious sounding whistle, and my personal favorite, what seems to be a hand rang bell. I prefer the sound that a swinging bell makes.
@PereMarquette1223 You can see the mechanism in the videos of her, and hear the air popping when it swings. It's definitely an air rocker mechanism.

Thank you for posting this video. My grandpa was an engineer on this train on the 40's and 50's.
