i got a t3/t4 and i have shaft play exactly like that. Does this mean the bushes and seals are buggered or the whole turbo is rooted

i got it fixed one of the fins bent on the turbo and to you comment why you dont get at jetta im assuming you never drove a VW anyone that drives a VW likes them and FYI car has 160k only replaced coil packs plugs and a turbo and you none will believe me but its orginal clutch also

thats why dont get a jetta 1.8t those are pos cars and the turbos on them are just another thing to fix when the car breaks down.... sucks for you my friend.

the turbo has a shaft going through the center, holding both sets of turbing blades. if it starts to move or wobble the seals and cartridges become worn and it becomes less efficient until it breaks.

Excuse my ignorance, buut what exactly IS shaft play?
Hey there i got a question about that, i got a 01 jetta 1.8t and my turbo just started making a terrable sound like somthings rubbing on it, did ur turbo make any strangs sounds like that because i got a decent amount of side to side movment

by side to side do you mean like the way mine is moving back and forth, or left to right in the housing? Either way it would mean that the turbo is blown. Left ro right movement should only be about .002 inches if i remember...

i was so strapped for cash at the time i ended going with another ko3s (used with 40K NO shaft play) Otherwise eventually i'm going to get a ko4.
