I'm standing in a patch of forest that was once clearfelled for its timber. The waste was burnt and in the ashbed a new forest was grown from the seeds of the trees that were once here. Look at it now, a healthy wet eucalypt forest, with big trees, a lush undergrowth a habitat for our wildlife and full of carbon. In fact we've grown this patch so well, Green groups say it has high conservation value and should be protected. Yesterdays cleafall is tomorrows high conservation value forest. Now that's a job well done.

  • Why does it matter? the fact is it did, and always will. Well regulated, visionary forest management will always provided better long term solutions than reactionary, emotion based protestation. There is a demand for wood and wood products and a good forest management regime ensures this demand is met, whilst managing a wide range of forest values. The only truly renewable resource - wood.

  • @TamarGirl It's roughly 50-60 years from memory.

  • Looks like a great job Paul! Weel done to you and all of the other people who care for our forests.

  • Well said Paul! I guess that many people who view this, know about successful forest management. We can grow forest like this in perpetuity and still meet our timber demands but we need enough area to do it. As a nation, how we can condone importing timber from non sustainable logging when with vision we can look after ourselves!
